Architects Snøhetta have designed a modular sofa system for MDF Italia aimed at reducing environmental impact, enabling customized living solutions, and simplifying logistics. The system comprises small modules that allow for a variety of layouts, which are easy to transport and can be assembled and reassembled to alter configurations or for recycling purposes.

The injection-molded base is made of recycled plastic with a hollow core, minimizing material usage. The bio-foam in the seat and back is moulded for comfort, and the fabric cover is available in recycled polyester. MDF Italia

Family-run Danish design company Carl Hansen & Søn, established in 1908, have launched a paper cord variant of the 1958 Børge Mogensen Table Bench. The Table Bench was part of Danish designer Børge Mogensen’s ‘building furniture concept’, which advocated building multifunctional durable furniture.

Crafted from solid oak with exposed tenon and mortise joints, the Table Bench is available in both long and short versions. It takes a craftsman six hours to weave 335 meters of paper cord using a double-plane weaving technique to crease the finished Table Bench. Carl Hansen & Søn.

It became the world’s first mass-produced plastic chair. Beginning in 2024, Vitra will manufacture the shell from recycled plastic sourced from Germany’s ‘Yellow Bag’ (Gelber Sack) collection program, and the chair will be fully recyclable at the end of its life.
