The Central Bank of Norway, Norges Bank, appointed Snøhetta and Metric Design / Terje Tønnessen to design its new paper currency. The 24th Open House London weekend will this year give free entry to 750 of the city’s best buildings, 140 of which are new to the annual programme. Among the new entries, highlights include Anish Kapoor’s Orbit Tower, the house Cheesegrater architect Richard Rogers designed for his parents in Wimbledon; Here East, the new technology hub and business campus in Hackney Wick and Second Home, a co- working office in Whitechapel that feels more like a nightclub than a workplace. Perennial favourites The Gherkin, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, tours of the Crossrail tunnels, as well as the Shard, the Cheesegrater and Portcullis House – and of course 10 Downing Street are once again among the buildings visitors can enter for free. Open House London

Hulger & Wilkinson Plumen Light Bulb

Hulger & Wilkinson Plumen Light Bulb

Design/ Interiors/ Lighting/ Objects

The Original Plumen 001 is the world’s first designer low energy light bulb. The dynamic, sculptured form contrasts to the dull regular shapes of existing low energy bulbs, in an attempt to make the Plumen a centrepiece, not afterthought. The Plumen 001 works like any other high quality low energy bulb – saving you 80% on your energy bills and lasting 8 times longer than a standard incandescent bulb. Designed by HULGER and Samuel Wilkinson.
