Tropical Modernism exhibition at the V&A

The Tropical Modernism: Architecture and Independence exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London explores the architectural styles of tropical modernism in West Africa and India. In the late 1940s, British architects Jane Drew and Maxwell Fry adapted a modern aesthetic valuing function over ornament and applied this to the hot, humid conditions of West Africa.

Emeco to Emeco exhibition designed by Jasper Morrison, at Triennale Milano

As part of Milan Design Week 2024, an exhibition by Jasper Morrison traces the 80-year history of Amercian furniture manufacturer Emeco and its iconic 1006 Navy Chair. Designed in 1944 for the US Navy, the 1006 Navy Chair was to be lightweight, non-corrosive, and fire-resistant. The chair was made from 80% salvaged aluminium and tested to last 150 years.

Luis Barragán Archive at the Vitra Design Museum

The Barragan Foundation has been caring for the estate of Luis Barragán (1902-1988), widely regarded as the most important Mexican architect of the 20th century. The archive material was recently moved to the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, Germany. Luis Barragán drew international attention with his first works in his hometown of Guadalajara. After moving to Mexico City in 1935, he developed his architectural language, combining international modernism with traditional elements of Mexican culture and landscape.

The Royal Academy of Arts in London presents an exhibition of Herzog & de Meuron (H&dM), the Swiss architectural practice founded in Basel in 1978, known for projects such as Tate Modern, Laban Dance Centre, Elbphilharmonie and M+. The exhibition will be in three spaces. The first space displays 400 objects, including models, materials, prints and photographs, covering a range of projects. The second space screens two films exploring people's observations of H&dM projects.
