The winner of the RIBA House of the Year 2023 is Green House, designed by London-based architectural studio Hayhurst & Co. Established in 2004 by Nick Hayhurst and Jonathan Nicholls, the studio created Green House to replace an existing house in a conservation area located on a confined urban plot in an alleyway in Tottenham, London. Historically the backland site of Green House comprised greenhouses, market gardens and orchards.

RIBA President Muyiwa Oki commented “Loneliness and isolation are critical issues, particularly for older people. The John Morden Centre’s elegance and efficacy sets a high standard for spaces that support healthier, happier and more independent lives.

The RIBA ‘Long Life, Low Energy: Design for a Circular Economy’ shows how the principles of the circular economy can help develop net zero architecture. The exhibition follows RIBA’s Built for the Environment report which concludes that 38% of the global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions are attributable to the built environment. RIBA
The Red House by David Kohn Architects is RIBA’s House of the Year 2022. The house in Dorset takes inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement and is a playful and colourful addition to the landscape.
